According to some consumer review guides, Craftsman garden tractors are some of the best on the market, and priced better than John Deere.

Does anyone here have experience with them?

They are decent but their service is TERRIBLE.
I highly advise paying a little more from a reputable dealer.
I am having to sue for a Sears tractor that caught on fire
under warranty. It took 5 weeks just for them to come out
and look at it, and say yep, you need a new tractor, DUH.
      Kohler engine. Husky tractor

My father has a craftsman that he bought in the mid eighties and the darn thing is still running……. they have a 1 1/2 acre yard, so it’s worked hard……. Also look into Poulan, they’re produced by craftsman and we have one that is excellent.

I’ve had mine for 3 years, no problem with 1 acre of land.
I did get the 3 ext. warranty (way over priced)and cancelled it the next year.
If you don’t know how to change the oil, lube and change blades they charge $150ish to come out and do it, even under warranty! Guess what, this little lady watched that grease monkeys’ every move…I did it myself last year and have been riding happy ever since.
I can’t tell you if the ride is good or not, as I’ve never had another one to compare it to.
I found out some don’t cut when you back up this one does, it has headlights, 6 speeds (not including reverse).
It fit my budget $995 on sale, they deliver for a fee of course
That probably doesn’t help alot cause I don’t know the horsepower stuff that you guys talk about oh yeah it is a DOHC

Thanks 572ci. I guess a little knowledge in the wrong hands IS dangerous…LOL

Yes. I have had mine for 5 years now. It is very dependable, especially if you keep up the maintenence on it. Keep it out of the weather, clean it after each use, change the oil when needed, spray the underside with that black coating for rust prevention.

Craftsman mowers are made by AYP (american yard products) ayp is owned by electrolux….. ayp makes other electrolux brands such as poulan/weedeater and husqvarna.

They are good quality for the money….. really does depend on whether you have good people at the sears around you or not….. but usually the service is good….. a fix it or replace it warranty as well….. even if it was your fault.

Troybuilt, cubcadet….. man these are mtds (aka made to die mowers) and are toss’m when they break mowers.

Btw, they don’t sell DOHC engines on them (dual over head cam) the lady above may have been thinking OHV (over head valve) the little hondas… they may be OHC (over head cam)
